Ingredients

Fritter Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely chopped onions About 2 medium onions.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Forms the base of the batter.
  • 3/4 cup milk Creamy element for a tender mouthfeel.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Enhances natural flavors of onions.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder Leavening agent for fluffiness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Adds aromatic essence.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Essential for flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adds slight kick.
  • Vegetable oil, for frying For achieving golden-brown crispiness.

Instructions

Make the Batter

  • In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix these dry ingredients thoroughly until they are well blended.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk until you achieve a smooth batter.
  • Fold in the finely chopped onions, ensuring they are evenly coated. The mixture should be thick enough to hold its shape when spooned out.

Heat the Oil

  • In a skillet, pour about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat.
  • To check if the oil is hot enough, drop a small spoonful of batter into the skillet; it should sizzle immediately.

Fry the Fritters

  • Spoon small amounts of the onion batter into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Lightly flatten each fritter with the back of your spoon to form a disk.
  • Fry for about 2–3 minutes per side or until they turn a beautiful golden brown and are crisp.
  • Monitor the fritters carefully to prevent burning.

Serve Warm

  • Once fried, transfer the fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve them warm, accompanied by sour cream or your favorite dip.

Notes

Chill the batter for about 15 minutes before frying for improved texture. Maintain proper oil temperature when frying.
