Instructions

Activation of Yeast

  • Blend the warm water with the sugar and active dry yeast in a bowl. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly and frothy.

Making the Dough

  • Combine the activated yeast mixture with warm milk, plain Greek yogurt, vegetable oil, and minced garlic in a large mixing bowl.
  • Stir in all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until a dough forms.

Kneading the Dough

  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 3-5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Letting It Rise

  • Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping & Cooking

  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 10 equal balls. Roll each ball into an oval shape.
  • Heat a greased skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each rolled naan until bubbly, then flip and cook until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side.

Adding Garlic Butter

  • Mix the melted butter with extra minced garlic and fresh herbs in a small bowl. Brush generously over hot naan immediately after cooking.

Notes

Consider making the dough in advance and refrigerating it overnight for enhanced flavors. You can also substitute whole wheat flour or experiment with different herb toppings.
