Ingredients

For the bread

  • 1 large loaf large loaf of French bread or Italian bread This will serve as the vessel for our cheesy ingredients.
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted Adds richness and flavor.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder Infuses the dish with a savory aroma.

For the filling

  • 1/2 lb ground Italian sausage (or ground beef) Brings a hearty flavor.
  • 1/2 cup mini pepperoni slices Adds a bit of spice.
  • 1 cup marinara sauce Adds moisture and a tangy base.
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Melts beautifully for a gooey texture.
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese Provides a sharp contrast.
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano Provides earthy notes.
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional) For those who enjoy a bit of heat.
  • 1/2 cup extra mozzarella cheese Because more cheese is always better!
  • Extra pepperoni slices For additional toppings.
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped For garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cut the top off the loaf of bread and hollow out the center, leaving about 1/2 inch of bread on the sides.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned. Drain excess fat and add onion powder, oregano, red pepper flakes, and marinara sauce. Stir to combine.
  • Brush the inside of the hollowed-out loaf with melted butter and sprinkle garlic powder inside.

Assembly

  • Layer half of the mozzarella cheese inside the bread, followed by the meat sauce mixture, mini pepperoni slices, and top with remaining mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  • Finish with extra mozzarella and arrange additional pepperoni slices on top.

Cooking

  • Place the stuffed loaf in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Sprinkle fresh parsley on top, slice into thick pieces, and serve with extra marinara for dipping.

Notes

Customize your fillings with your favorite ingredients! For a crunch, add crushed potato chips or crispy bacon bits. Can be prepared a day in advance and baked when ready.
