  • 1/4 tsp salt Balances the sweetness and enhances flavor.
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk Ensures the donuts are moist and fluffy.

  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips Tiny bursts of chocolate in every bite!

For the Glaze

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Creates the perfect coating.
  • 2 tbsp butter Adds shine and richness to the glaze.
  • 2 tbsp corn syrup or heavy cream Ensures the glaze’s smooth texture.
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract Deepens the flavor profile.
  • Extra tbsp mini chocolate chips (for topping) For added texture and decoration.

Instructions

Make the Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, mixing just until combined.
  • Be gentle while folding in the mini chocolate chips to ensure they are evenly distributed without overmixing.

Bake the Donuts

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan to prevent sticking.
  • Spoon the batter into each donut cavity, filling about 3/4 full to allow for rising during baking.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Glaze

  • In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter together, stirring until smooth and well combined.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the corn syrup (or heavy cream) and vanilla extract until fully blended.
  • Allow the glaze to cool slightly, as this will help it thicken to the perfect dipping consistency.

Glaze & Decorate

  • Once the donuts have cooled, dip each one into the warm chocolate glaze, letting the excess drip off.
  • While the glaze is still soft, sprinkle extra mini chocolate chips, drizzle more chocolate, or add curls of chocolate on top.

Notes

For optimal results, ensure ingredients are at room temperature. For healthier variations, substitute white sugar with coconut sugar or use Greek yogurt instead of buttermilk.
