Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the large eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well combined and smooth.
  • Stir in the boiling water carefully until well combined; the batter will be thin.
  • Fold in 1 cup of M&M candies evenly throughout the batter.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra moist cake, add a tablespoon of sour cream or Greek yogurt to the batter. Don’t skip the cooling step for better structure. You can also substitute some all-purpose flour with cake flour to amplify the chocolate flavor.
