Ingredients

For the marinade

  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil or olive oil Choose based on preference

For the main dish

  • 1 large fish fillet snapper, sea bass, cod, or your preferred white fish Choose the freshest fish available
  • 1–2 small red chilies, thinly sliced Adjust based on desired spice level
  • 2–3 slices fresh ginger For aromatic infusion
  • 1 lime cut into wedges For serving
  • Fresh coriander leaves For garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by rinsing your fish fillet under cold water. Pat it dry with paper towels, allowing it to soak in flavors while you prepare the other ingredients.
  • Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.

Mix the Marinade

  • In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, fish sauce, lime juice, and sesame or olive oil. Stir well to blend these ingredients into a zesty marinade.

Prepare the Steamer

  • Fill a pot with about one inch of water and bring it to a gentle simmer. Place a steamer basket or rack inside the pot.

Arrange and Steam

  • On a heatproof plate, place the seasoned fish fillet. Slide the fresh ginger slices underneath the fillet. Pour the marinade over the fish.
  • Carefully place the plate in the steamer. Cover with a lid and steam for about 8–10 minutes.
  • The fish is done when it flakes easily with a fork.

Finishing Touches

  • Once cooked, remove the plate from the steamer. Top it with thin slices of red chili and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve with lime wedges.

Notes

For the best flavor, use the freshest fish available. You can also allow the fish to marinate for 15-30 minutes before steaming for enhanced flavors.
