  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 cup of water. Set the heat to medium, stirring gently with a wooden spoon until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  • Allow the mixture to come to a gentle boil without stirring. Avoid stirring to prevent crystallization.
  • Watch for the mixture to change to a deep amber color, which should take about 8-10 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the saucepan from the heat. Slowly add 1/2 cup of heavy cream while stirring constantly with a whisk until the sauce is smooth and well combined.
  • Let the caramel sauce cool down to room temperature in the pan before transferring to a jar.

Notes

Use a light-colored saucepan to monitor the caramel color. Be patient and do not stir while boiling. Allow the sauce to cool slowly for better flavor.
