Instructions

Preparation

Making the Custard

  • In a pot, heat the whole milk with the lemon zest until it begins to boil. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar and cornstarch until smooth. Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly. Return to the pot and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until thick. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract and Limoncello, then cool.

Making the Whipped Cream

  • In a chilled bowl, beat heavy cream with powdered sugar and lemon extract until stiff peaks form.

Assembling the Dessert

  • On a serving tray, place one sheet of puff pastry and spread a layer of custard over it. Add a layer of whipped cream, then top with the second sheet of puff pastry. Repeat layers, finishing with whipped cream on top.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and optionally garnish with lemon zest or fresh berries. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.

Notes

For the best texture, ensure heavy cream is well chilled before whipping. Adding a pinch of salt to the custard can balance the flavors. Consider making custard and whipped cream ahead and assembling layers before serving.
