Ingredients

For the Beef Marinade

  • 8 oz thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak) Use tender cuts for the best flavor.
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce Dark and savory.
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce Adds a rich sweetness.
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder For a classic aromatic flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper For a subtle kick.
  • 1 tsp cornstarch For a silky texture.
  • 1 tsp sesame oil Enhances flavor.

For the Fried Rice

  • 2 cups cooked rice (preferably day-old) Day-old rice works best.
  • 1/2 cup red onion, diced Caramelizes beautifully.
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, diced Adds sweetness.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Intensifies the aroma.
  • 1/2 cup carrots, diced Provides a crunchy contrast.
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped For a fresh finishing touch.
  • 1/2 cup cabbage, shredded Adds crunch.
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce To tie everything together.
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce For richer color.
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce Another layer of flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional) For those who like heat.
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (final drizzle) For finishing touch.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for stir-frying) Essential for frying.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, garlic powder, black pepper, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Mix well and let marinate for 10-15 minutes.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or pan over medium-high heat and stir-fry the marinated beef for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Sauté the diced onions until they soften and caramelize, about 3-4 minutes. Then add garlic, carrots, and cabbage. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes.
  • Add the cooked rice, breaking up clumps with a spatula. Stir in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and oyster sauce. Add the cooked beef back into the mix and toss everything together.
  • Finally, add chopped green onions, chili flakes (if desired), and a drizzle of sesame oil. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until well combined and heated through.

Notes

Use day-old rice for the best texture. Prep ingredients beforehand for efficiency. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure proper frying.
