Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm milk, 2 1/4 tsp of instant yeast, and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Allow this mixture to sit for about 5 minutes, or until you see it become foamy.
  • Add 1 large egg, 6 tbsp of softened unsalted butter, 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, and 1/2 tsp of salt to the bowl. Mix these ingredients together until a soft dough forms.
  • On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm environment for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out into a 12x18-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  • Evenly spread the softened 4 oz of cream cheese over the rolled-out dough, followed by a generous layer of 1 1/2 cups of strawberry preserves.
  • Starting from one end, roll the dough tightly into a log shape. Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 12 even rolls.
  • Place the rolls into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes.
  • As the rolls rise, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  • While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting. Beat together 6 oz of softened cream cheese, 3 tbsp of softened unsalted butter, 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  • Once the rolls are out of the oven and still warm, spread the frosting generously over the top. Drizzle the 1/2 cup of strawberry glaze on top and sprinkle with crushed graham crackers.
  • Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For optimal rising, create a warm environment by preheating your oven to 200°F, then turning it off and placing the covered dough inside. You can refrigerate the rolls overnight before baking for a time-saver for brunch. Consider trying different preserves or adding chocolate chips or nuts for variation.
