Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat egg yolks with 3/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in whole milk and vanilla extract.
  • Fold the dry ingredients into the egg yolk mixture until just combined.
  • In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add remaining 1/4 cup sugar until firm peaks form. Gently fold into the batter.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes.

Assemble

  • In a bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, heavy cream, and a splash of vanilla extract.
  • Poke holes in the cooled cake using a fork and pour the milk mixture over it. Let soak for at least 30 minutes.
  • Spread whipped cream on top of the cake. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • Garnish with fresh sliced strawberries before serving.

Notes

Allow the cake to soak overnight for optimal flavor. Separate eggs at room temperature for best results.
