Instructions

Preparation

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, add the unsalted butter and melt it slowly.
  • Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly until light golden brown.
  • Slowly pour in the whole milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps and cook for about 2–3 minutes until thickened.
  • Lower the heat and add the shredded cheese, stirring vigorously until melted into a smooth sauce.
  • Stir in the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, cayenne pepper (if using), and hot sauce until fully combined.
